The job of a naturalist is immensely rewarding as you assist in helping people of all ages learn and experience our natural world. Additionally, as a naturalist you are always learning since no one person can know every star, animal or plant.
Briefly describe your background/experience in your field of work.
I have been involved in the field of education for several decades; the last four of which has been in the field of natural science and environmental education. I have previously worked at Wood Lake Nature Center and Como Zoo. I came into the environmental education field later in life after having spent thirty years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Q: What are your interests and hobbies?
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, reading, gardening and spending time with my family.
Q: How has nature impacted your life?
I have had the opportunity to experience many of the world’s different environs such as: sailing on a catamaran in the Caribbean Sea, snorkeling in Hawaii, trekking through jungles in Asia, mountain climbing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, or being on expeditions above the Arctic Circle. These experiences have greatly contributed to my teaching experience.
